Getting ready to embarrass ourselves…

Showing off your work is never easy, especially when it’s something that’s close to your heart. That is very much the case with The Corner Café, our debut release.

But we know that if we want to make it the best game we possibly can (also to have any hope at all of having an actual business) we need to show it off, warts and all.

But showing off a game is like singing to someone for the first time, in many ways you are revealing parts of yourself that you might not even be aware of. Do I suck? Is my art any good? What if everyone hates it? Is this even fun?

Improvement isn’t always a nice process, sometimes being told “I wouldn’t buy that” is a bitter but necessary pill to swallow. None of us are born with an innate ability to create amazing things, you have to have at least seen a tree before you could draw one, right? Same with everything else, you have to know what makes something good before you create something good. So what makes good art good? Dude, that is so beyond the scope of this blog post…

But eventually all of the “I wouldn’t buy that”s will turn into something like “oh hey, that’s kinda cool”.

I can safely say that our first playtest was one of the most anxious moments of my life. Thankfully, it wasn’t a total disaster…

(I mean, one tester couldn’t get the game running at all so that wasn’t great…)

Somehow, we have managed to sneak our way into the demo rooms at this years Fís Games Summit. So the warts are gonna be shown, whether we are ready or not.

At time of writing we don’t have a steam page up, we’re still working on getting our assets together for that, so we’re planning on redirecting folks to our mailing list instead (hey, that could be how you are reading this!). There are some fantastic other developers in the room with us, and we are both excited and terrified to be sharing the space with them.

For now we have a lot of work we need to get done between now at the summit (like fixing a lot of bugs, and maybe redoing a couple of entire minigames and systems from scratch, nothing major) so we’re gonna (try to) keep this one short and sweet.

We cannot wait to see you all there, it’s going to be great craic!

Le meas,

Eoghan
